INTRODUCTION
The “Turning Point: The Vietnam War” on Netflix, is very interesting from another perspective. Every American President, beginning with Kennedy right up to Nixon and even up to this day seems to be no different from John Wayne in the movies. Americans were deceived and lied to about the war in Vietnam. Today, it’s a different game with similar flavour.
Dehumanizing the people of Palestinian has been going on for decades. Referring to them as animal is most recent. Every nation has the right to exists, and every nation may have to struggle to achieve it. The Vietcong did so in Vietnam. The Palestinian have the right to do so. Had America and the EU played a more forthright role, there would be no terrorism, no hostage taking and no genocide of Gaza. There is a need to ensure Global Responsibility over the Creation of a Palestinian State
THE GENOCIDE OF GAZA
A UN Commission of Inquiry characterized it as genocide, cover a period of intense military action, humanitarian crisis, and international legal scrutiny since late 2023. In the past, Saddam Hussein was accused of Weapons of Mass Destruction and framed at the UN based on false reports. Are we witnessing the same with Iran over its nuclear program?
HOW DO YOU DEFINE THE TRUTH
In today’s world of Democracy, the new media defines what is right and wrong for us. For decades, the Palestinians have witnessed their lands being seized, the establishment of Jewish settlements, and the systematic targeting of Palestinians. The Palestinians in turn failed to take in the wider picture. Instead, they went on a ‘redemption course’ which has proven devastating to this very day.
The West in turn, notably America and the EU at the time failed to establish a Democratic Palestinian State. Instead, it sided with Israel, under the pretext of having the right to defend itself, which is unacceptable when you look at Gaza today.
It has taken us decades to reach a consensus over a “Two-State” solution to the Palestinian issue. Only now, after Gaza has been reduced to rumble has some understanding been reached over the humanitarian plight of the people of Gaza and not the war itself. Even at this point in time, many offered the common excuse: “Waiting to see a viable government in place in Palestine.” This is nothing short of double standards and hypocrisy, when America and the EU can address the situation immediately!
Look at the war in Ukraine. Russian expressed its concerns over its security decades ago. This aspect, remains hidden, instead, we receive news on the war as it is taking place today and Trump’s failure to address the situation.
I am not a Hamas supporter, nor do I approve of what took place on 7 October 2023 by Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups, BUT let’s face the truth: After decades of occupation, brutality, confiscation of lands etc., is it not a natural outcome to end up with Hamas?
This is where double-standards and hypocrisy, dominates our global scene from the beginning of time: The failure of the Global Leadership to determine right from wrong in a just manner has led to the Genocide of Gaza, not Hamas. Hamas is just an excuse. Terrorism is highlighted but not the failure to establish a Two-State solution. It failed to define Palestinian Statehood in accordance with democratic principles., and to ensure Israel accepted them. The recent bombing in Doha, Qatar by Israel, has led to America’s isolation. Even the Arab Leadership, suddenly realises that they mean nothing to America when it comes to Israel.
ESTABLISHING DECENCY
What is going to be interesting is how will this current game over the release of all hostages, the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the establishment of a viable democratic Palestinian State without any of the current players? Fatah and Hamas etc., will have to be replaced with an interim Palestinian government, whose job will be to establish free and fair elections to establish a Palestinian State.
There is a need to achieve sincere peace and stability in the region. All UN resolutions need to be respected and implemented. Palestine should not be carved out again, no more violence or genocide. All this clearly shows us that the Global Leadership needs to establish a legitimate democratic government in Palestine under UN auspices and not through Blair. The Arab Leadership needs to establish a democratic framework to see it through because they are the ones forking out the money to rebuild Palestine. If the Global Leadership is truly keen and honest to fulfill its responsibilities. This requires America to be fair and just and not take the side of Israel. This is indeed going to be a challenge. UPDATE: The BBC reported: Bowen: Trump's role in Gaza ceasefire was decisive, but not a roadmap to peace. "Trump's role was decisive.Without his push to demand Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's agreement to terms that he had previously rejected, the deal would not have been signed. It helps to recognise what the deal is – and what it isn't.The agreement was for a ceasefire and an exchange of hostages for prisoners. It is not a peace agreement, or even the start of a peace process. The next phase of the "Trump 20-point plan" requires an agreement filling in the gaps of the framework which declares that the Gaza Strip will be demilitarized, secured and governed by a committee including Palestinians. It will report to a Board of Peace chaired by President Trump. Significant work needs to be done on the detail needed to make that happen. The Gaza agreement is not a route map to peace in the Middle East, the ultimate and so far, unreachable destination.
The next 'pit stop' - Will Israel go along with the current plan? Will Hamas be willing to disarm without the withdrawal of Israeli troops and other parts of the route map being fulfilled? Frankly speaking, Hamas should seek guarantees as well as be allowed to form a political party.
